Obmet,

You are able to upgrade from 11.0 to 11.0.2 without installing 11.0.1. Here
are the two

a.. If FreeHand MX version 11.0.1 is installed, you may download the updater
from the FreeHand Updates page
<http://www.macromedia.com/support/freehand/updaters.html>.
a.. If FreeHand MX version 11.0 is installed, you may download the full
FreeHand MX 11.0.2 update
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/foc/index.cfm?product=freehandmx.

Sorry for the confusion on the instructions that you saw, these instructions
are incorrect, could you refer me to the URL that you saw these on so that I
can get the issue resolved?

I'm copying here the gist of a message that I just sent to Macromedia
regarding
this issue in case anybody else has the same issue or knows the answer.
These are the instructions on the Macromedia website for installing
11.0.2
"Note: If you wish to install this updated version and currently have
FreeHand
MX version 11.0 installed on your machine, you will need to upgrad to
FreeHand
MXa (version 11.0.1) before installing FreeHand MX version 11.0.2. When
uninstalling FreeHand MX version 11.0, you can elect to preserve the
Preferences file if so desired."
I tried to download version 11.0.1 first as specified above by Macromedia
but
the system ignored that request and sent me 11.0.2 - which is fine
providing I
don't need 11.0.1.
1. Do I really need to install 11.0.1 first before installing 11.0.2?
2. Should I remove Version 11 from my system before activating 11.0.2?

From what I have read YES. FH 11.0.1 is a stand alone Full Installer
and technically not an upgrader to 11.0. While 11.0.2 is an upgrader to
11.0.1 ONLY and not to 11.0. MM has always said that deleting 11.0 was
optional after installing 11.0.1, whether or not you SHOULD I can't say.

I would change this line then as well on the Description page of the
11.0.2 update:

" The FreeHand MX version 11.0.2 update modifies an existing FreeHand MX
version 11.0.1 installed application. "

John,

The URL is

http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/freehand/mx11/releasenotes_11
02.html

I've also highlighted the relevant part of the instructions on my own site
here:

http://www.felan.com.au/fhinfo.htm

As to the second part of the question, should I remove Version 11.0.0 before
activating 11.0.2 or doesn't it matter. At the moment they are both installed
and sitting in the Macromedia folder side by side. I just haven't activated
11.0.2 yet and I am concerned that there might be conflict.

Thanks for your help,

Ob

Ob,

Thanks for providing the URL and information regarding the Release Notes.
Looks like we had a mix up on this.I will get it edited ASAP so others will
not have this confusion.

FreeHand MX 11.0 did not use Activation. So 11.0 and 11.0.2 can reside on
the same system with no problem.

When updating I am receiving an error box stating "An error prevented the
update from completing. 11002:2,-5000 Access denied error". I have tried this
several time with the same result. Anybody hazard a guess?

Sounds like you don't have the proper user privileges/permissions. You may
need admin privileges. Check your account info in the system Preferences.

However, I also get an error when I try to update my FHMXa 11.0.1 to .2, but
my error is 11002:2, -15, with no additional info. I have sent a query to Tech
Support but have not received an answer yet.
